I moved from Boston to New York to build my design career. I interviewed everywhere I could, methodically and tenaciously. Walter Bernard hired me during our initial interview. I was 23. His office was buzzing with projects that he shared generously with his staff. He was supportive and nurturing, giving credit when warranted, teaching gently and quietly. He remains a mentor twenty-five years later. The launch of the first issue of Sophisticated Traveler, now a “T” magazine, was one of many projects I worked on under Walter’s tutelage.
