Rudy Hogland, then the art director for Time magazine, lured me away from The New York Times with the offer of designing special sections and by introducing me to Gloria Steinem. I took the job, but only lasted four months. I found the weekly format to be clunky compared to the immediacy of daily news coverage. I went back to the Times.
